On Monday, September 28th, 2020, Brian Wayne McCormick, loving son, brother and uncle, and adored member of his entire extended family, passed away at the age of 36. Brian is survived by his father Bob and mother Melinda, brother Rob and sister-in-law Katie, sister Maggie and brother-in-law Brian Bluett. He was a beloved uncle to Ben, Ellie and Lucy. Brian was born on June 18th, 1984 in Bryn Mawr, PA. Besides brief stints in Lake Zurich, IL and Olympia, WA, Brian spent the majority of his life in West Chester, PA and graduated from West Chester East High School in 2003. During high school, Brian followed in his father’s footsteps in the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Brian then attended Millersville University earning a BS in ocean studies in 2008. Following graduation, Brian’s love of the ocean led him to the Marine Science Consortium on Wallops Island, VA where he spent a number of years teaching younger generations about the beauty of the bay. More recently, Brian was one of his mother’s primary caregivers as she coped with Alzheimer’s disease. Brian was known to all as an avid Philadelphia sports fan, lover of music and encyclopedia of all thing’s marine biology. He loved being outdoors, observing nature and its many wonders and was especially at peace in the Belgrade Lakes of Maine. He was known best by his friends, family, and all he met for his kind nature and willingness to lend an ear. His greatest gift was, perhaps, his friendship. He amassed a lifelong collection of friends who were more like family. He will be greatly missed by so many. An opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects will be held on October 16th from 1-4pm at the Jacob F. Ruth Funeral Home in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brian’s name to the Chincoteague Bay Field Station.
