Carol Hawkins Ketels was born on August 7, 1958, in Chestnut Hill to James and Kathleen Hawkins. She attended Our Mother of Consolation School and Cardinal Dougherty High School. Carol earned her first degree from Pierce College, where she studied to become a legal secretary, and later received her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. She worked at Rohm Haas which merged with Dow Chemical Company for many years, climbing through the rank to be a chemist.
Carol met the love of her life, Christopher (Chris) Ketels, and they were married in 2001.
In her later years, Carol found joy in playing pickleball, traveling, and tending to her garden. Her vibrant spirit and love for life touched everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Hawkins, and her mother-in-law Violet Cornish.
Carol is survived by her devoted husband, Chris Ketels, her brother Walter “Mike” Hawkins, and her sisters Kathy Hawkins Sunday and Judy Le Pera (Mike). She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Our Mother of Consolation Church at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 4th.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Our Mother of Consolation School Rebuild Fund.
