George E. O'Brien

d. October 9, 2020

George E. O'Brien "OBIE" (Pop Pop) of Glenside, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2020 at the age of 91. He was survived by his wife of 61 years Kathleen (Muldowney); his devoted children Neil (Terry), Chris and Doug as well as his adoring grandchildren Christopher, MaryKate, Kelly, Sean and Connell. George was a very amiable character who loved his family, friends and country. His personality allowed him to get along with everyone he came across. He worked from 1959-1989 as a traveling salesman. The family enjoyed hearing from folks over the years what a great guy George was when they saw him. That was frequently when he was coming or going from one of the many churches in the area as well as his days working at the State Store which helped him earn the nickname "The Mayor of Flourtown" George was a true Philadelphian. He attended St. Edwards Parish off of Broad Street in North Philadelphia, Roman Catholic High School and eventually LaSalle College. He was a big fan of the Philly sports teams but got even greater enjoyment watching his sons and grandchildren play. Later in life George frequently traveled with his wife Kathleen and son Doug. The three of them traveled the country but their favorite spot was Arizona where Doug resided and George was stationed in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. We were blessed to have such a kind, steady and calm influence in our lives for so long. He will be missed by so many. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters “Pink Sisters”, 2212 Green Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130.
