Helen B. Stewart, 91, of Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Helen was born on June 11, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Byron and Margaret (Houlihan) Burns. She was a graduate of Germantown High School in Philadelphia.
On November 21, 1953, Helen married the love of her life, Edwin Bruce Stewart, in Philadelphia. They shared many devoted years together until his passing on December 25, 2005.
Helen was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and cherished friend to many. She selflessly put family and friends before herself and was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She was a longtime member of Jarrettown United Methodist Church in Dresher, Pennsylvania, and generously volunteered for many years with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Main Street Fair, which benefited Chestnut Hill Hospital.
An avid golfer, Helen’s love for the game spanned decades. She proudly played on the Ladies Golf Teams at Manufacturer’s Golf & Country Club in Oreland, Pennsylvania, and at Heritage Oaks Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. In her later years, she continued to enjoy the sport by faithfully watching every golf tournament available.
Above all else, Helen’s greatest joy and pride was her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Bruce (Elizabeth) Stewart of Morton, Pennsylvania, and Sandra “Sandy” (Glenn) Stewart-Sandgren of Lafayette, Indiana; her siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Schumacher of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, and Byron (Andrea) Burns of New Jersey; her grandchildren, Matthew (Estefania) Stewart, Connor (Allysen) Gallagher, and Alexandra Stewart, Sean Sandgren, Kristofer (Ashley) Sandgren; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Aria, Declan, and Kason.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Burns and Sandra Rich.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Jarrettown United Methodist Church in Dresher, Pennsylvania, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with services immediately following at 10:30 a.m. Private burial will follow.
