John Edward Zimmermann III of Philadelphia PA died on March 8 after a short illness. John was born in Chestnut Hill in 1943 to John Edward (Ted) Zimmermann II and Virginia (Bobbie) Glendinning Zimmermann. He attended Chestnut Hill Academy and Saint George’s school in Middletown Rhode Island and graduated from Tufts University with a degree in electrical engineering. John began work in engineering but soon left to pursue a 50 year career in advertising. After working at several Philadelphia area advertising agencies, he eventually partnered with friend and colleague, Keith Fox to begin their own firm, The Advertising Collaborative. John and his former wife, Suzanne Shippen Zimmermann settled in Chestnut Hill and raised two children, Edward and Phoebe. He enjoyed his many talents and interests, including photography, paddle tennis, sailing, and trap shooting. He dedicated much of his time to his church in Chestnut Hill, Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church. He also served as Secretary of the Corinthian Yacht Club for 19 years. John is survived by his brother, Robert P. Zimmermann (Jonnilee) his children, Edward John Zimmermann (Amanda) and Phoebe Shippen Zimmermann, as well as 11 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Chestnut Hill on March 29 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Face To Face Germantown.
