Kevin Saint Clair

October 14, 1958 — November 6, 2023

Devoted father and grandfather, cherished husband, beloved brother, respected teacher, coach, and athlete, Kevin Saint Clair, 65, died suddenly November 6, doing what he loved: cycling.

One of Jean and Jack’s 12 children, Kevin stood out among his siblings for his playful nature, a trait defining him his entire life. A caring, inspiring teacher, he began his career at St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and the Gesu School. He went on to teach 6th grade at J.R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School for 23 years, eventually serving as  Middle School Dean.  Through his coaching, Masterman’s Track and Cross Country athletes flourished, with the Cross Country team winning multiple Public League championships and earning medals at States.

A longtime Vesper Boat Club member and 5-time U.S. National Rowing team member, he earned a bronze medal in Lightweight Men's Eight at the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. Kevin won multiple national rowing championships in both sweep and sculling events.  As coach, he launched the national-team careers for countless rowing athletes at Villanova University and Bachelors Barge Club. Equally talented on a bike as he was in a boat, Kevin was an accomplished road, mountain, and cyclo-cross rider. A stand-out high school runner, he attended Temple University, where he ran track, coached by his father.  He earned his masters at St. Joseph’s University.  A hard-working handyman, he transformed his family’s fixer-upper into a beautiful welcoming home.  Kevin had just finished sanding and edging the floors of his son’s new fixer-upper before his final bike ride home.

Forever in our hearts, Kevin will be missed by his wife, Ellen, sons Jack (Elizabeth) and Wyatt, and grandsons, Maximilian and Fulton; and his siblings: Jack St. Clair, Kathleen Carver, Jeanne Quinn, Patty Sharp, Karen Hatfield, Eileen St. Clair, Anita St. Clair, Michele St. Clair, Colleen Felix, Brenden St. Clair, and the late James Arthur. He adored his many nieces and nephews.

The family has been overwhelmed by the beautiful flowers and thoughtful memorial tree donations but now asks to show your support instead through donations honoring his life to Our Mother of Consolation Parish, where he loved to sing in the choir, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, or Vesper Boat Club.

PLEASE DONATE TO THE ABOVE ORGANIZATIONS.
