Leonard I Kindler, 83, passed away from complications following a stroke on December 6th 2025. He was surrounded by family in his home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Born in 1942 to Abraham and Augusta in New York City, Leonard earned a PHD in Higher Education and Science Education, an MS in Education, and a BS in Chemistry and Science Education. He would go on to teach and work in education for the next thirty-two years in both New York and then in his new home city of Philadelphia. After retiring from teaching, he embarked upon a new career working for the City of Philadelphia, first as a chemist for the Philadelphia Water Department, and then in the Police Department’s forensics lab.
He was a lifetime lover of science, history, and cats. He shared a passion for geology with his wife Carol, and for a time they published their own guide to rock hunting, “DIG IT!” While their health permitted, they were both active sellers and shoppers at area flea markets, stamp shows and collectible doll shows.
Leonard’s life was made richer by his hobbies, his passions, and his pursuit of knowledge. He left a deep impression upon everyone in his life, and his loss will be deeply felt by friends and family alike.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife Carol and their children David and Jennifer.
