Lillian F. Stone
October 24, 1921 – March 9, 2018
Lillian was born to Mary T. and John H. Stone in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 24, 1921. She had one sibling, Jeanne Stone. During her adolescent years she resided in the West Philadelphia section of the city. Lillian attended the Philadelphia Public School System for her elementary, junior high and high school education.
Lillian decided to pursue a career in nursing and to become a registered nurse (R.N.). She completed the training and requirements to become a registered nurse (R.N.) and was prepared to move ahead with her career.
In 1945 Lillian joined the U.S. Military and enlisted in the U.S. Army as a registered nurse (R.N.). During her tenure in the U.S. Military, Lillian decided to make a change and left the Army to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. She remained in the Air Force until 1966 when she retired with the rank of Major.
While in the military, Lillian served in World War II, The Korean War and The Vietnam War. She was deployed to various U.S. bases around the world, which afforded her the opportunity to be stationed in England, Germany, France, Korea, Japan, Philippines and Hawaii. She was also stationed at military bases on the U.S. mainland to include locations in San Francisco, CA., Roswell, N.M., Houston, TX., St. Louis, MO., Dayton, OH. and New Jersey.
Lillian received several Commendations, Awards and Recognitions for her years of service in the U.S. Military. This included an acknowledgement/commendation from President Obama.
After her 1966 retirement from the U. S. Military Service, Lillian continued to pursue her nursing career as an R.N. working at several nursing care facilities and senior citizen homes in the Philadelphia region.
Lillian joined The Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia in 1975. She was a member of The Church until 2009, when she relocated to become a resident of the Fairview Paper Mill Care Center. Lillian resided at Fairview Paper Mill until 2018.
Lillian is survived by one nephew, Robert A. Golden JR. and extended family members.
