Marie Nuara Maloney

Marie Nuara Maloney (68) passed away peacefully at her home in Chestnut Hill, PA on Thursday, July 28th after an 11 month battle with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. Marie is survived by her two children, Meghan Maloney Barber (Russell) and Paul Charles Maloney (Samantha). Also survived by her siblings, Thomas Nuara (Eileen), Linda Nuara (Thomas Petruzzelli) and Leonard Nuara (Janet). She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Gerard Joseph Maloney, her parents, Charles and Leonette Nuara, and sister-in-law, Roxanne Nuara (Thomas). Marie grew up in Scotch Plains, NJ with her 3 brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Scotch Plains Fanwood High School and attended classes at Kean College and Rutgers University. Marie was a retailer to her core - first with Barnes & Noble where she met the love of her life, Gerard Maloney, then with IKEA and finally The Velvet Shoestring in Wayne, PA. Marie was a force to be reckoned with on any sales floor and was able to make her peers, leaders and customers all feel valued and heard. After moving her family from Michigan, Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Texas again, and finally landing in Pennsylvania - Marie always found her footing anchored in her Catholic faith and built communities around it. From St. Thomas More in Houston, TX, St. Bede in Williamsburg, VA, St. Theresa in Douglasville, GA and even her short time in Philadelphia with Our Mother of Consolation Parish - Marie served and loved her community. Everyone who knew Marie knew love. She gave her love so freely - especially to her children, husband, family and those friends who became family. Marie would light up any room she walked into. Her infectious joy and laugh will be missed most of all. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 4th at 11am at Our Mother of Consolation Parish in Philadelphia, PA (9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave). A full rosary will begin at 10:45am with the Funeral Mass directly following.
