Mary T. Hansbury, age 79, Mary died at her home in Chestnut Hill on March 2, 2021. Mary was graduated from Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School (class of 1958). She taught at La Salle University in Philadelphia and at Bethlehem University in Palestine. Her Ph.D. is from Temple University specializing in Early Christian Studies in a World Religions context with additional work done in Jewish studies at Hebrew University and Syriac at Princeton University. She studied in China for a semester and conducted research on the contact between the East Syrian tradition and Buddhism during the Tang dynasty. More recently Mary was researching at SEERI, the Syriac center in Kerala, India. She has published the translations of St. Isaac of Nineveh, St. Ephrem, Jacob of Serug, and others. Mary loved art and music and was a trained iconographer and presented her work to family, friends, and institutions around the world. Preceded by her parents William and Catherine (Moran), and her brother William (Jr.) and his wife Patricia (Wilkinson). Survivors (nieces and nephews): Jennifer (Hansbury) McKenna and husband Michael; William Hansbury (III) and wife Dianna (Randall) and great nephews, William (IV) and Daniel Alison (Hansbury) Fleck, husband Michael, and great nephew David; Brendan Hansbury. Funeral Mass Thursday, March 11, 2021, 10AM at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., Phila., PA 19118. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ministries and Good Works, Our Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118.
