Mary Joyce Brzoska (Genther) affectionately known as Joy, joined the angels from her home on Saturday, April 15, at the age of 82, due to ALS. She is survived by her loving husband Thomas, their daughters Sharon Schmitt and Maureen Brzoska, grandchildren Joseph, Megan, Michael, and John, and sons-in-law David and Richard. Joy was born in Bridgeport, PA, the youngest of seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Agnes, siblings: Robert, Elwood (Moe), Donald, John, Dolores, Elizabeth (Betty), and her first cousin, Philip (Cork), who was beloved as a brother. Joy attended Bishop Kenrick High School, and then went to work as a teacher. She taught 2 years at St. Eleanor’s in Collegeville with 55 students in her class, then 2 years at St. Augustine’s in Bridgeport 62 students in her class. While working there she also attended weekend classes at Immaculata and Gwynedd Mercy Colleges. Joy and Tom raised their family in Pottstown, PA. Most of her career she worked as an Interior Designer. As empty nesters, they moved to Cape May, NJ, where Joy kept busy with many activities. She was very active with the Cape May Chapter of the Christ Child Society, where she held multiple positions on the Board including President. Her favorite activities were making layettes for young mothers, and the school coat drive. She received their Lifetime Achievement Award after 20 years of service. Joy also was involved with the Cape May Garden Club, and even won “Best in Show" for her flower arrangement one year. Joy was always an active member of her parishes particularly at St. Aloysius in Pottstown, Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May, and finally Our Mother of Consolation in Chestnut Hill. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 27 at St. Philip Neri in Lafayette Hill, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cape May Christ Child Society, the ALS Association, or a preferred organization serving the poor.
