Melinda Balling McCormick

d. March 4, 2022

On Friday, March 4th, 2022, Melinda Balling McCormick of Wyndmoor PA, loving mother, wife and grandmother, and adored member of her extended family and friends, passed away at the age of 70 after her struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Melinda is survived by her husband of 41 years, Bob, son Rob and daughter-in-law Katie, daughter Maggie and son-in-law Brian Bluett. She was a beloved grandmother to Ben, Ellie and Lucy. Melinda was preceded in death by her dear son, Brian. Melinda was born on December 23rd, 1951 in Uniontown PA, the daughter of Wayne G Balling, and Constance Frank. She was a graduate of Uniontown High School, and achieved her BS degree in psychology from Bucknell University, class of 1973. Following graduation, Melinda worked in customer service at a host of companies, including Upjohn Laboratory Procedures where, while training him as a new hire, she met her husband Bob. She went on to work at Longwood Gardens and the Country Store in Wilmington, DE. Melinda was known to all for her wit and intelligence. She never backed down from a good-humored debate, which would usually be accompanied by her laughter. She was an excellent chef, able to whip up a delicious meal from nearly anything she found in the kitchen. Melinda loved traveling. Among her favorite spots were Ocracoke Island, NC and summers spent in Belgrade Lakes, ME. Over the last several years, she and Bob took many adventurous trips, including biking through France and tackling the challenging Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. While enjoying these many trips away, she was equally happy spending time gardening in her yard and decorating her home. An opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects will be held on a date that is still to be determined. While not necessary, but deeply appreciated, donations can be made in Melinda’s name to the Brandywine Conservancy (brandywine.org). The Brandywine Conservancy protects and conserves the land, water, natural, and cultural resources of the Brandywine-Christina creeks watershed, a part of Chester County PA that Melinda loved.
