Michael F. McMenamin, Sr. (“Frank”) passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, just one day before his 92nd birthday. Frank was the devoted husband of the late Marie McMenamin (nee Rigney) and is survived by his five children: Marie Teresa, Mike (Eileen), Susan (Jerry), Patty (Joe) Sergio, and Colleen. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren Joey (Melanie), Christina (Ned), Megan (Keith), Alison, Steve, Sarah, Ashley, Nicole, and his four beautiful great-grandchildren, June, Ava, Reed, and the newest addition to the family, Marie.
Born and raised in Mount Airy, Frank was the son of the late John McMenamin and Bridget McMenamin (nee Murphy), who emigrated from Ireland to build a new life in America. Frank attended Holy Cross Grade School and Northeast Catholic High School for Boys. From a young age, Frank was an independent thinker, always eager to forge his own path. His independent spirit, street smarts, bold decision-making, and strong work ethic laid the foundation for an incredible life and career.
After a few years of working, Frank enlisted in the Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. Upon completing his military service, he met the love of his life, Marie. Together, they raised their family in Wyndmoor and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together until Marie’s passing in 2021.
Frank had a keen business sense and an entrepreneurial spirit. After leaving the military, he opened a car repair service with his brother on St. Martins Lane, followed by an Amoco Service Station in Flourtown. Eventually, he bought land in Oreland to build his own autobody shop, McMenamin’s Auto Body, where he worked alongside his son, Mike, until his retirement. In retirement, Frank and Marie cherished their time with family and friends at their vacation home in Beach Haven West, New Jersey.
Frank’s family will deeply miss his candid opinions, sense of humor, endless amusing stories, and incredible wisdom. Most of all, they will miss his loving presence in their daily lives.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters, Convent of Divine Love, 2212 Green Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130-3197.
