Patricia Corcoran Griffin, 72, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Born on January 7, 1954, in Queens, New York, Patricia was raised in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Villanova University and began her career as an oncology nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where she cared for her patients with exceptional compassion, warmth, and understanding.
It was at Jefferson that Patricia met the love of her life, Dr. Thomas D. Griffin, who was then a medical student. Their connection was immediate, and they fell deeply in love. Married in 1980, they shared 46 years of profound devotion, building a beautiful life and family together. Their marriage was one of unwavering love, partnership, and mutual admiration.
Warm, vivacious, and full of life, Patricia was a shining light in any room she entered. She possessed an extraordinary combination of elegance, strength, generosity, and grace. Deeply intuitive and endlessly compassionate, she had a remarkable ability to recognize when someone needed help, often before a word was spoken. She never hesitated to give of herself, offering kindness, comfort, and unwavering support to those around her.
Above all, Patricia was a devoted wife and an extraordinary mother. She was the cornerstone of her family, a constant source of love, reassurance, and strength. She was present for every milestone, every sporting event, and every performance, always encouraging and advocating for her children. As her family grew, she welcomed her children-in-law and grandchildren with the same unconditional love and devotion, finding immeasurable joy in each of them. She also held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Her love was unmistakable, expressed not only in words but in countless acts of tenderness and care.
Patricia had an impeccable sense of style and a remarkable gift for making everything around her beautiful. Whether decorating a home, tending her garden, hosting a celebration, or thoughtfully setting the table for a family gathering, she approached every detail with elegance, creativity, and care. She had a special talent for transforming ordinary moments into cherished memories, always seeking to make life more beautiful for those she loved.
An accomplished woman with a remarkable range of interests, Patricia completed the New York City Marathon twice, was a skilled pilot, and enjoyed playing bridge and quilting. A gifted gardener and member of the Wissahickon Garden Club, she brought beauty and creativity to everything she touched. In 1994, she was honored with the Community Service Award from the Chestnut Hill Community Association, reflecting her generosity and dedication to her community.
Her remarkable strength was evident throughout her life. Following the loss of her father at a young age, she became a source of comfort and stability for her family. Later, after suffering a devastating skiing accident, Patricia faced years of physical pain and difficult complications with extraordinary dignity, perseverance, and resilience. Even through life’s greatest challenges, she retained the warmth and beautiful smile that those who loved her will always remember.
Patricia is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Thomas D. Griffin; her three children, Dr. Thomas Griffin Jr. (Bernadette Keenan Griffin), Catherine Griffin (Kori Federici Griffin), and Maureen Griffin; and her cherished grandchildren, Kailene Rose Griffin, Erin Grace Griffin, and Cameron Rone Griffin; and her beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother, Patricia Corcoran, and her siblings, Joseph Corcoran III, Marybeth Corcoran McCauley, Vincent Corcoran, and Matthew Corcoran.
She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Patrick Corcoran Jr.; her aunt, Clair Conroy Sears; and her sister-in-law, Colleen Griffin Desh.
Patricia leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary love, kindness, strength, and beauty. Her presence made the world brighter, her generosity touched countless lives, and her devotion to her family will remain an enduring gift to all who knew and loved her.
