Patricia Johnson Leaming, 96, a longtime resident of Chestnut Hill, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 27th at Saint Joseph Villa. Pat was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and so much more.
Pat was born in Chestnut Hill Hospital on February 20, 1929, to Beatrice MacAllister Henkels and Col Harry P. Johnson. Raised primarily in Mount Airy and East Falls, attended Holy Cross grammar school, then Raven Hill Academy High School. After high school, Pat worked for John B. Kelly as Receptionist and Switchboard Operator.
In November 1951, Pat married Francis J (aka Bax) Leaming and moved to Woodale Road in 1952 where they raised their 10 children surrounded by wonderful neighbors.
Pat’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was devoted to God and an active member of Our Mother of Consolation Church and School, aiding with class trips, bake sales, transportation to sporting events, visiting the sick, liturgist, sacristan and, up until just a few years ago, a Eucharist Minister.
In addition to her huge heart and open door policy, Pat was also known for her 30 plus years of exceptional service to the Philadelphia library system, Thursday night spaghetti dinners, apple cake, iced tea, crumb cake, angel food cake, and any type cookie you wanted.
Pat is preceded in death by her husband, Bax, grandchildren Francis John ‘Jack’ Lyons, Jennifer Leaming Lyons, Robert ‘Bobby’ Lyons, Liz Earley and beloved daughter-in-law Nina Leaming.
Pat is survived by her 10 children: Jack, Frank, Carol (Collins), Trish (Blackburn), Liz (Lyons), Paul, Mary Louise (Callanan), Suzanne (Bagwell), Peter and Michael as well as 20+ grandchildren and 20+ great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 4th, 9:30AM at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., Phila., PA 19118. Funeral Mass 11:00AM. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
